Important update from TheSchoolRun

For the past 13 years, TheSchoolRun has been run by a small team of mums working from home, dedicated to providing quality educational resources to primary school parents. Unfortunately, rising supplier costs and falling revenue have made it impossible for us to continue operating, and we’ve had to make the difficult decision to close. The good news: We’ve arranged for another educational provider to take over many of our resources. These will be hosted on a new portal, where the content will be updated and expanded to support your child’s learning.

What this means for subscribers:

  • Your subscription is still active, and for now, you can keep using the website as normal — just log in with your usual details to access all our articles and resources*.
  • In a few months, all resources will move to the new portal. You’ll continue to have access there until your subscription ends. We’ll send you full details nearer the time.
  • As a thank you for your support, we’ll also be sending you 16 primary school eBooks (worth £108.84) to download and keep.

A few changes to be aware of:

  • The Learning Journey weekly email has ended, but your child’s plan will still be updated on your dashboard each Monday. Just log in to see the recommended worksheets.
  • The 11+ weekly emails have now ended. We sent you all the remaining emails in the series at the end of March — please check your inbox (and spam folder) if you haven’t seen them. You can also follow the full programme here: 11+ Learning Journey.

If you have any questions, please contact us at enquiries@theschoolrun.com. Thank you for being part of our journey it’s been a privilege to support your family’s learning.

*If you need to reset your password, it will still work as usual. Please check your spam folder if the reset email doesn’t appear in your inbox.

Best personalised books for children

Spiderman pages
Give your child a really unique introduction to the world of fiction with a personalised book – after all, who wouldn’t want to be the hero or heroine of a fantastic adventure? Seeing their name – and face – in print, alongside favourite characters, will be a thrill whether they’re just starting to read for themselves or ready to embark on classic literature. We pick the best personalised books where your child has the starring role.

The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name and The Little Boy Who Lost His Name

(£24.99 and free UK delivery, variable number of pages, Wonderbly).

Two beautifully illustrated books which tell the story of a child who has lost their name and who sets off on a journey to track down the missing letters. Along the way they meet lots of weird, wonderful and wise characters. Each offers the child the first letter of its name. As the sequence of each story is dependent on the name of the child (over 236 illustrations and rhyming stories have been created to cater for every single name), every child receives a perfectly individual book.

For example, if you're giving the book to an Emily, she’ll meet a forgetful Elephant, a rather vain Mermaid, a cold-averse Inuit, a misunderstood Lion and a genial Yeti. Each gives the first letter of their name and – hey presto – EMILY’s name is found!

The Snowman and the Snowdog

(from £24.99, Penwizard.co.uk)

A fantastic festive read, The Snowman and the Snowdog is personalised with your child's name, hairstyle and colour, skin tone and pyjama colour. The beautiful illustrations match the film style perfectly, and your child will love starring in the new classic Snowman story, a perennial Christmas favourite.

A magical adventure for boys and girls, Oi! Stop Eating the Roses is packed with personalisation and is handcrafted by two mums in Devon. From the colour of your child’s scooter to their own, inimitable catch-phrases, all the details are expertly woven into the story. We love the collage artwork, which mirrors Carle’s iconic pictures.

Photographs of your child power their imagination, and you can even choose different languages for the text.

The Penguin Party

The Penguin Party is set on a magical island where a group of Rockhopper penguins throw a wonderful party to celebrate your child’s arrival into the world and offer them a series of special gifts – values like gratitude, forgiveness and self-worth that will help them understand the world and their own place in it. We love the inclusive personalisation options you can choose from: as well as a selection of hair styles and skin colours your child's book can reflect their family and culture perfectly by featuring two mums or two dads, for example, and different clothing styles.
